Camp Idyllwild is a nature oriented summer day camp for children age 5 (rising K) to age 12 and serves the Nashville, Brentwood and Franklin areas with transportation to and from camp.
The inspiration for Camp Idyllwild came from Richard Louv's book "Last Child in the Woods: Saving our Children from Nature Deficit Disorder". Camp Idyllwild was born of the desire of two parents, Eric & Suzanne Ward, to create a safe, fun way for their own children to immerse themselves in nature because they believed that kids need to spend time outside in an unstructured way, using their imaginations and exploring, discovering and playing! Research shows that quality time spent outside improves overall well-being in children and improves their health and leads to a life-long appreciation for and desire to protect and preserve the environment.
Camp Idyllwild is a magical day camp that provides a unique and special summer camp experience for children. We are not located right down the street or in your neighborhood. We are far enough that you can only hear the sounds of nature - not the hum of traffic. Our creek is untouched and pristine - just waiting to be experienced and explored. We have trees, rocks, dirt, critters, wide open space, and as much adventure as your imagination can handle. We also have a balanced mix of indoor and outdoor activity areas because not all kids like to spend all day outside. If your child loves to read, play games or do crafts all day they can do this at Camp Idyllwild...but they're still immersed in a beautiful, natural setting. Kids love Camp Idyllwild because they get to do whatever they want to for as long as they want to every single day - this child-centered philosophy is unique to Camp Idyllwild. We can do this because we don't accept hundreds of campers each week. Online enrollment is available at www.campidyllwild.com and an early registration discount. Most sessions fill up quickly so enroll early and come play outside with us this summer!
