Family Program: Explore West African Stringed and Percussion Instruments

Enslaved people in the Caribbean created the banjo based on their memories of West African lutes. Guided by performance troupe AfricaNashville leader Ibrahima Dioubate — a multi-instrumentalist and performer of West African music originally from Guinea — participants can try their hand at and explore a West African lute, the n’goni, two drums, the dundun and the jembe.
